First, apologies for writing in English, I hope it is not too much a problem.

Wilhelm Leopold FISCHER was my late father's uncle ; Wilhelm was born Kronstadt, Siebenburgen (Brasov, Romania) 15 Nov 1880 ; confirmed 5 Jun 1898.

My late mother said that he was 'a tailor in Berlin' - my mother met my father in 1944, so presumably this was true around that time.

I found a marriage record for Wilhelm with Emma BETHGE 25 Aug 1914 at Berlin-Schöneberg Emma BETHGE b 1884 Magdeburg, Germany.

Her parents were Friedrich Karl BETHGE (a tailor) & Auguste TRAPP married 28 Apr 1872 at Magdeburg, groom b 8 Feb 1857 his parents Heinrich BETHGE & Anna Marie BECKER, bride b 28 Jul 1847 parents Martin TRAPP & Christine VANSELOW, all of Magdeburg.

I believe this refers to Emma BETHGE's father : Bethge, Friedrich, master tailor, Magdeburger Promenade 1 1895 Burg (bei Magdeburg) Address Book.

I have no further information on this couple, Wilhelm Leopold FISCHER & Emma BETHGE - how do I proceed ?

Was wird denn gesucht? Die Eltern stehen ja auf der Urkunde, auch eine Tochter mit ihrer Heirat wird genannt.
Für Geburten gibt es in Deutschland einen Datenschutz von 110 Jahren. Allerdings kann man in den Kirchenbüchern (www.archion.de) versuchen noch weiter zu kommen, die Taufen haben in Berlin-Brandenburg eine Schutzfrist von 90 Jahren.

Die Tochter heißt Margarete, wird 1939 als staatenlos angegeben, sie heiratet einen Hans Schreier. Entnommen aus dem Namensregister der Heiraten Standesamt Berlin-Lichtenberg I. Die Urkunde kann man im Landesarchiv Berlin bekommen.

I don't have that information on the picture I took of the marriage record - thanks so much !

And I now see that Wilhelm Leopold's occupation at marriage is ‘büchbinder’ - can you tell me his father's occupation ? His father was still a weaver at marriage with mother Marie SERBAN ; his mother's father Antal (sometimes Josef) SERBAN has occupation 'Oeconommeisterban' & 'Oekonom an der glasshütte' - there was a glassworks at Bicsad, where my grandfather was actually born although the couple lived at Kronstadt, and Bicsad was near Aita-seaca where Marie SERBAN was born ...

Thanks Balthasar70 - yes, that is the the information that I have as well (young Elsa FISCHER died 15 months later of diphtheria 25 May 1907) ; I am uncertain, but Heinrich FISCHER & Amalia nee BADER may have divorced, and Amalia remarried ...

There were three brothers - Heinrich FISCHER born 26 Mar 1876, died 1 May 1947 at Kronstadt ; Wilhelm Leopold FISCHER born 15 Nov 1880 at Kronstadt, and my grandfather Victor Gottfried FISCHER born 11 Nov 1887 at Kronstadt (married 1912 at Orsova, died 1968 at Hamburg).


I've not found their mother's death as yet, Marie FISCHER nee SERBAN born 6 Oct 1847 at Aita-seaca [Szarz-ajta, Haromszek] married Carl Heinrich FISCHER 22 Jun 1872 at Kronstadt.

Post Script : Amalie BADER was born 18 Aug and christened 13 Sep 1886 at Kronstadt, and one of her godparents was Carl FISCHER, probably her future father-in-law ; at marriage Amalie was 18, Carl FISCHER age 30, and Elsa was born six months later ...
